Chronic Rheumatic Disorders, rheumatic arthritis, Bechterew’s disease, conditions following reactive arthritic disorders.
These are chronic inflammatory disorders characterized by painful swelling of joints and morning stiffness lasting longer than 30 minutes.
Rheumatic arthritis is an overall inflammatory disorder of connective tissues. Most often it affects small joints of the hands – usually symmetrically – but also other joints. Untreated rheumatic arthritis leads to deformities and pronounced functional deficit of the affected joints. Foremost on the list of complaints caused by the disorder is paint in the affected joints, morning stiffness, and night pains.
Ankylosing spondylarthritis is an inflammatory disorder which mainly affects the spinal joints in the small of the back and waist area and causes gradual stiffening of the spine. Occasionally it also affects peripheral joints – hip joints and shoulders. The onset of the disorder is creeping; the most dominant complaint is pain in the lower part of the small of the back. At later stages, defective movement affects the entire spine.
Reactive types of arthritis are inflammatory disorders of joints which accompany other, mostly infectious, disorders. Sometimes they do not coincide with the infectious process but appear after the infection disappears. Foremost on the list of complaints caused by the disorder is joint pain; the disorder may affect small as well as large joints.
